It is important for you to check with your local state governing agency to get information specific to your state. In the State of Illinois, new LCPCs are required to complete supervision training within their first full two-year renewal cycle.
Although *legally* there is a window in which LCPCs could technically provide supervision without adequate training, the Ethical Code of the American Counseling Association requires the acquisition of sufficient training prior to taking on the roles and responsibilities of supervising. Therefore, the answer to the question, "When should I get this training?" is really either before you commence a supervisor's role or when your state legally requires you to, whichever comes first!
